Muros, Town of Water and Salt offers the coordination of each school’s visit with other, complementary options: shellfish tasting, a trip to the Pozo do Cachón tide mill, a visit to the dock fish market, a visit to Muros beach, where you can learn about shellfish-gathering, its techniques and tools, as well as discovering the species that live in our sands.
On application, children will be given an Educational Notebook which they can fill in during their visit.

A tasting menu that pays tribute to the flavours of the bay’s bounty with no need for great culinary efforts, owing to the quality of the raw material, and which comes straight from the dock to your plate.
Muros is a noble town that bewitches whoever visits it: its lovely and well-preserved historic centre beguiles the walker, as much by its structure as by the interesting artistic and homespun buildings that adorn its streets and squares in a completely harmonious way. Evidence of its reputation as one of the most beautiful towns in Galicia is that it was declared a Historical-Artistic Area (decree of 29 May 1970).

The Pozo do Cachon is a magnificent example of industrial engineering dating from the second decade of the 19th century, one of Europe’s most important tide mills. It was built by order of Ignacio Perez Bazarra, owing to increased cultivation of corn and the decrease in river flow in the area during the summer.
Nowadays it serves as a Civic and Cultural Centre, with a Mills of the Death Coast Visitors Centre, and an attached building for temporary exhibitions, where you can see two Guild stones and a bronze-age cist tomb, dated between 1800 and 800 BC.

With the Muros Shellfish-gatherers’ Association we organise work-experience activities, during which we also inform about the diversity of our beaches and sandy mudflats. For schoolchildren we offer a visit to Muros beach, where you can learn about shellfish-gathering on foot, as well as meeting some of our most common sand-dwellers.

The freshest fish and shellfish are unloaded daily to the dock market at various times of day.
The auction: voices and code names, trays, the smell of salt, fish and shellfish. The highest price wins. A spectacle not to be missed.
